This session will feature the experience of two communities (Fort Worth, TX and Fort Wayne, IN) that were recipients through AARP’s Community Challenge Grant program, as well as representatives from AARP’s Public Policy Institute and a technical expert from Team Better Block to describe how rapid prototyping complete streets and active programming in neighborhoods and commercial districts can effectively engage residents and result in permanent changes to intersections and street networks. The Community Challenge grant program also provides a means for communities to integrate older adults’ needs into the pedestrian, cycling and transit environment, and identify how new threats to ADA implementation can be converted into opportunities to increase livability for all.

  • Bill Armbuster, Senior Advisor (AARP Livable Communities)

  • Andrew Howard, Principal (Team Better Block)
