While there is growing stakeholder interest in speed management, there is also reluctance from the engineering and enforcement communities, because simply changing signs does not have short term effectiveness. There is a great need for this topic to get wider discussion. The growing evidence that speed/pedestrian related injuries are disproportionately in disadvantaged communities adds to the importance. This session will explore how to develop a better understanding of the complexities of the speed management and what needs to happen to reap the benefits of reduced speeds on roadways.
